Wind and Rain!

Sunset at the Beach

Weather! The east coast got it last week and now it is in our corner of the US. Rain and wind and more wind to come. Supposed to get up to 70 MPH gusts. I don't like it. But I guess it is better than earthquakes, hurricanes and typhoons. I am expecting the lights to go out any minute. I have a battery back up for my computers, router, etc. so it gives me at least 5 minutes to shut everything down without it crashing.

I think we got our new TV set up finally. Not the way I want it, but it is about as good as we are gonna get it. I haven't even tried to turn the DVD-Blue Ray player on yet. I am sure it will have to be all re-set but we don't watch it that much since we have Netflix on the TV now. We had to watch Netflix through the DVD player before. I tried the On Demand with the Comcast remote so the great grandkids could watch something different and they finally agreed on something, so I clicked OK! And then they asked if I wanted to buy it? No, I did not want to buy it, so we shut it off! Cheap Great Grandma!

Can you believe what is happening in our Presidential election? It is not very Presidential if you ask me, but what does this old Granny know about anything? I am afraid it doesn't make our country look very intelligent. I am at the point now I will just be glad when it is over.

Grandfather's House

The above theme reminds me so much of my Grandparent's farmhouse. It was a homestead that my Mother's family had owned since right after the Civil War when my great grandparents loaded up and traveled from Illinois to Iowa in a covered wagon. He was a carpenters mate on the USS Cairo during the War so he built a small house. They lived in that for awhile until later when they built the big house as the family grew.  My Mother was born in the big house. I think the house is gone now but I don't know for sure. I know my cousin's sold it when there weren't any son's that wanted to farm. It really made me sad when I heard it was sold. I really felt like a part of me was gone. That happens all through a person's life. Little parts keep falling away. New parts are added but we still miss the ones that are gone.

I hope you all have a wonderful week end and I hope your weather is better than ours. Have a good one!

  1. Yann's wife here ! :)

I feel for you for the TV set ^^" ! Why it has to become more and more complicated is beyond me. Isn't technology supposed to simplify our lives instead ? It's like all the new ovens. I remember never having a problem following a recipe and baking something with my grandmother's oven, which had to be lit up with matches. Or even my parents one, all electric but still okay as long as you didn't forgot the time (which happened to me so much that it became a running joke between my friends... Carbon Chef and all kind of names). But a few years ago, I started not being able to bake anything except roasted meat or cookies. Anything else just doesn't... cook I guess. It stays raw and I can't for the life of me understand why. The recipes are unchanged, only the oven is. I so miss a good, spongy, not-failed cake !

Also, like your husband, I did use a flip cell phone until 2012 ! Loved them. Cute, easy, and so light and small you could slip them anywhere ! Now, the things are so big you could as well be running around with a whole TV under your arm. I thought cell phones were supposed to be easy to take anywhere with you ? Here it just reminds me of the first heavy cells, with antennas and all. Retrolution ! Yay !

On a side note, I don't like politics much but if it can appease you somewhat, I speak five languages and other countries are roughly experiencing the same with their coming or ongoing elections, with people lamenting like you or getting angered like me. We're on the same boat I guess, must be the era... Rest assured that your country doesn't look any worse from it. On the contrary, everybody feels sort of... comforted to see that happening in the US too ?

I hope you don't suffer too much from the weather.

  2. Yann, maybe they are making the cell phones bigger so you can watch tv on your cell phone! I remember when my daughter got her first one and it was huge. She had to buy a bigger purse to carry it! The little flip phones are great for older people.

I was just thinking about the new TV's, etc. that most older people just would not know how to use them. But we will all be dead and gone soon so the manufacturing companies don't care! I still have to be very, very careful I don't hit the wrong button on the remote and sometimes have to grab the other remote to get what I want.

I hope you get your stove working so you can get that cake you want. I used to have a cook stove that would make every cake I baked spongy on the bottom. It was very strange and finally figured out it was the oven! Kinda like our old TV. we kept thinking our hearing was going bad because we couldn't make out what people were saying half the time. All of a sudden with the new TV, we can hear again!

    Have a good week.

    1. Haha, maybe but we don't even watch Tv at home or not that much. We just use it for DVD/Bluray and video games. Maybe I'm old-fashioned but I think cells should be for calls, camera for taking pictures, computers for computing and so on... It seems weird to have a phone which tells you the weather. Soon they will be making coffee too. That would be nice :)

Have a good week too. Thank you.
