Firefox 29

Sunrise Purple Fields

I just updated my Firefox to 29 and it is really different. I lost several features I used and am hoping I can get them back. Some of the themes don't look near as nice with 29 and some look fine.

Just thought I would make a quick post and let you know it is available for updating now.

Looks like the Pacific Northwest is going to have some really nice weather this week.

More later after I figure out how to make some changes to Firefox.

Spring Sunshine

Cherry Blossoms Pink

Today is a beautiful spring day in Northwest Washington. Yesterday we broke the record for rain in one day. As my Mother used to say, "If you don't like the weather here, wait a few mintues and it will change!" And my Mother was always right!

Speaking of Mothers, I decided to have my blog in pink Motherly colors for next months holiday, Mothers Day. Hope you like it.

My Mom has been gone for 12 years now and I still miss her.

Well, we looked at washing machines this week and I was totally shocked at how expensive they are now. And they tell us they don't do as good at getting your laundry clean as the old ones! They took the phosphates out of detergents, which I know there was a reason for but that was what got the wash clean! And now the washers don't clean as good. Plus we had to argue with the salesman about not wanting a front load machine! He wanted to know why, so I told him it was harder to bend over.....oh, but you can pay this much more and get a stand for it so you don't have to bend over! I don't want a front loader....which I think we finally got across to him. And now if you get a top loader, you can't open it after it starts! I like to open the top and see how things are going in the washer but I guess they think you won't watch your kids so they might get ino the machine. You have to hit a pause button to open the top but that stops the machine from working so you can't see anything!
I still haven't made a decision on what machine to get and know we will have to soon. Plus, as I said, they are so expensive!!

I told you I had made my laundry detergent but hadn't tried it yet. Well I am totally enthusiastic about it now. It works just great, except next time I don't think I will put as much water in it. It doesn't take that long to make and it saves so much money. Plus it gets the laundry clean with my old washer anyway! You can do a load for just a few pennies. My grandaughter is very motivated to do things natural and save money. So she was the one that actually went on line and found the recipe and has been making it for over a year. Now she has found out how to make the laundry crystals so I may have to look into that, too.

I hope everyone had a nice Easter. We had the quietest Easter ever, I think. We spent the day reading and relaxing. We will be having our Easter celebration this next Sunday with grandkids and great grandkids, so will be fun. It is so great to be around that much love, energy, and excitement the little ones generate.

Better get back to work. Have a great week end!

Another Rainy Spring Day

Spring Bee

Our beautiful sunshine is gone for awhile. We really enjoy it when it is here, though.

Well, I have more information on the future of themes for Firefox. They will still be available. The look will be different but we can continue to customize our computers.

I wanted to tell you about one of my favorite add-ons for Mozilla Firefox. It is called MozBackup. You can find it at: http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/
If you get a new computer or just want to back up your Firefox, you use the program to back up Firefox or Thunderbird on a thumb drive. So when you put Firefox in your new computer you take the thumb drive and install Firefox and Thunderbird so all of your settings, bookmarks, etc. are there. I back mine up every once in awhile just in case the computer crashes. I have bookmarks I don't want to lose, etc.

Enough Mozilla talk.

One of our neighbors has goats. The great grandkids love them. They are so cute but the poor guy can't keep them in his field. It is almost funny because he keeps fixing the fence and they find another place to get out of. I am sure the UPS driver hates our little dead end road because he has to try to corral the goats so  he can get by. The other day he thought he would open the gate and try to get them back in...well, that didn't work. He had goats surrounding his truck with more goats getting out. So, now he just slows way down and hopes he doesn't hit one. They are very clever goats. Today when I went to make my husband's lunch the last 2 slices of bread were not very soft so decided to get a fresh loaf out. After lunch I told my husband he should just feed the 2 bread slices to the goats and not waste them. Well, he made a friend! Several in fact. Some of the goats aren't quite as friendly as the others so they all didn't get bread. So now he has one that is very fond of him! The goat waits outside of his shop door. You know when you tear up romain for salad you always have a big chunk you can't use, well the goats get that now, too.I  know we aren't making it any easier for the poor guy to keep his goats in but I don't like to waste food!

When I was 5 or 6, we lived in the "farm in the woods" I wrote about before, we had a billy goat. His name was Billy! We couldn't keep him in a pen, either. My Dad made a wagon and the billy goat would pull me and my brother around. But I hated that goat. He had horns and didn't like me. One time I saw him coming at me, so I ran for the house but the screen door didn't shut quick enough and he followed me into the house. I honestly can't remember how Mom got him out, but I sure remember screaming and can still hear that screen door slamming behind Billy. My Mom was very cool about everything and never got overly excited, so I am sure she just took him by the horns and led him out. I remember hoping the bears would eat him every night I went to bed! But that never happened.

If I don't get back before Easter. have a great one. Till next time!

Wondering about Firefox?

Gold Finch in Golden Garden

I was reading on the forum today about a new version of Firefox. I keep my version up to date because it makes it much safer for browsing. But I was checking out Firefox 29 Australis. I am thinking it may not be compatable with Persona themes. I don't know for sure but from what I have read they are trying to make Firefox look and feel like Chrome. If I wanted to use Chrome I would so I am not very happy about the changes. BUT I don't know for sure if there will be Firefox 29 that is like what we have now, or if this new Firefox Australis is what we HAVE to use. I kind of doubt they will have 2 different versions because that would not be cost effective for Mozilla. I posted a question on the forum about this so I will post on my blog when I get an answer.

What will I do if I can't make Persona themes? I really don't want to learn how to make a whole different item! I thought about making Chrome themes and decided since I don't use Chrome, why bother?

We are having some beautiful spring weather this week end. I got my windows all washed on the outside and will do the inside next week.

My toe is finally feeling half way normal but very ugly. I just hope I have a decent looking toenail by summer.

Enjoy the week end. I plan to.

Desktop Wallpapers for G Mail Background

Pansies so Sweet

Thought I would stop in and let you know you can use any of my desktop wallpapers for your GMail backgrounds. They work great. I personally like a darker background so I choose one that has a darker background.

I am still working on Firefox themes but it doesn't seem like they are bring used as much as they used to be. I would love some thoughts on that.

Our oldest great grandson is coming for a visit tomorrow and we are looking forward to that. We don't get to see him as often as we used to since he doesn't live as close. I hope it is sunshiny so we can be outside. It is spring break and he will be up to visit his grandparents. He loves it when he can be out in the country at their house.  Our daughter in law is bringing him over tomorrow. He loves chocolate doughnuts so we picked some up this morning.

Have a great week end.

Re-Do

Found a new blog design place called Plumrose Lane, so am using one of the spring designs.
I hope this blog design site keeps it up so bloggers can continue to use it. I used to use ScappinBlogs but they discontinued their site.

Hope you like the new design.

Fifty Seven Years

Owls For Easter

Today is a bright sunny Wednsday and I have some laundry out on the line. I know WA state and am afraid to put all if it out in the spring! I tried something new this morning when I did laundry. My granddaughter told me she was making her own laundry detergent so I thought I would give it a try. We bought all the ingredients Saturday when we did our shopping and I made it that afternoon. There are only 3 ingredients and water in it and they are all very inexpensive. I will put the link in for anyone that wants to or needs to save money. You can find the recipe, etc. at: http://www.thefamilyhomestead.com/laundrysoap.htm. It just costs penny's to use. I have heard that most laundry detergents are water and they are! My husband does a lot of mechanic work so gets some really grubby clothes and I haven't tried it on them yet, so am hoping! Today everything I washed came out nice and clean.

Speaking of my hubby...we have our 57th wedding anniversary this week. We have been together for 58 years because we dated a year before we got married. I can't believe how things have changed in 57 years! We didn't have much money...he was beginning his career in the US Forest Service and I was just 18. He made $4,000 the first year we were married so things were tight but we didn't mind. We lived in a small cabin in the woods close to the ranger station the first 3 months we were married. We felt like we were wasting the $50 a month on rent so found a house close by that wasn't even for sale but the owner had been killed in a logging accident and his widow didn't live there anymore but rented it out. So we went to her house and asked her if she would think about selling it to us. We didn't have any money for a down payment or anything. We were young and dumb and didn't know how things worked! But she was a very sweet lady and after she thought about it, she decided she would sell it to us and she even arranged the loan through a bank with NO down payment. So we bought this small house in the mountains for $3,500.00. Our water came from a creek! And it was good clean, fresh water.

Our son was born that first year we were married and how exciting that was for me. I was a mother! And had the sweetest, cutest, smartest little baby boy anyone could ever want. And the handsomest best guy in the world for my husband. He was and still is one of the most hardworking men in the world. It has been a fantastic 57 years and I don't and can't imagine my life without having him by my side.

He hunted and fished, I baked bread, canned fruit and vegetables and even canned deer meat with onion, celery and carrots for stews. I made all of our clothes. We cut our own wood for heat.

I am in the process of needing a new washer and I think back to my first washing machine! We bought it used for $35.00. It was an electric wringer washer and I had to keep it on the back porch so when I did laundry I had to pull it into the house and hook it up to the kitchen sink faucet to fill it. In the winter or bad weather, diapers, etc. were hung in the upstairs room where my husband put up some clothes line. Otherwise they were on the outside lines.

Our sweet little girl was born the next year and I was in heaven. I didn't think I would ever get a little girl since boys run in my husband's family. He was one of 6 boys and 3 sisters. On the way home from the hospital I had to stop at Penny's and buy a pair of pink ruffled plastic pants. (My Mom and I had made all of the babies flannel diapers and you had to cover them with plastic pants!) Two years later we had another sweet baby boy. We almost lost him so he was very special. So that was 3 kids 3 and under, so I was very, very busy but I loved "most" every minute of it and would do it over again in a minute. I was young and had lots of energy.

It has been a wonderful 57 years!

to be continued.............
